Through a review on Notebook Stories I discovered Lost Crates, a sort of stationery subscription service. Most people like getting packages in the mail, and I am certainly no exception. This had the added bonus of involving another love of mine: office supplies. The price made me a little wary – $38 seemed a little steep – but my husband suggested I give it a try for one month and see how I like it. The Lost Crates folks also assured me that everything included would be at least $38 market value, if not more, so I went ahead. Here are the goodies I got:

- 1 medium hardcover blank journal from Ecosytem (retail $17)
- 2 Stabilo point 88 pens, in red and black (retail ~$2)
- 2 Pop Ink memo books from The French Paper Company (retail $2.50)
- 1 Virginia Field Notes memo book (retail ~$3.50, though you can only buy them in 3-packs for $10, and they sent me my home state, which I thought was sweet of them)
- 1 Eco Staple Free Stapler from Made by Humans (retail ~$8)
So that’s $33 worth of stuff, plus shipping, plus personalization, all for $38. Which is a decent deal, but I have to admit that I probably won’t use the staple free stapler, and the memo books aren’t a size I ever use (yet, anyway), but it’s not bad for the first time. Nothing has lines (which I prefer); I can’t wait to use the pens. And I freely admit that I coveted the Virginia Field Notes when they first came out. My biggest concern is that I can’t find anywhere on my account to leave feedback about my crate so next month’s selection can be even better. But I suppose I can’t really expect the service to be that personalized – I’m sure their staff is quite limited.
But anyway, thanks to Farooq for my Lost Crate. I think I’ll stay on for another month or two.
