open a book...
Contrary to popular belief, I do read, and often. This page won't be updated
often enough to do it justice, but here's a start for now. In the future I hope
to add better descriptions of authors and some noteworthy books.
Websites
- Bookcrossing: This site is dedicated to making the world into a giant library. You label your
books and release them into the wild, which can mean leaving them on a parkbench
or giving them to a friend. You can see the books I've registered or caught - as well as what I'm currently reading - on my bookshelf.
- My Blog: I've started writing reviews for almost every book I read, and I post all of them here along with commentary on movies, websites, and more. I also have the book reviews collected into a single page, but I can't promise to keep it very well updated. Got something you'd like me to review? Let me know.
- Free Books: Below are sites that offer chances to either win books or receive advance reading copies (ARCs) for review. I have received books through all of these websites in the past.
Authors
- Natalie Goldberg: If ever I need a cure for writer's block, or even just to rekindle the desperate
ache to write, all I need to do is crack open one of
her books and read a couple pages. Works every time.
- Mike Resnick: Probably my favorite author. There are books I've read by other people that I've enjoyed
more than his books, but there is no other author whose books I've enjoyed as consistently.
He spins a very good yarn, and the fact that most of his stories fall within the
same universe and timeline adds to the realism.
- James Lileks: I first discovered his Institute of Official Cheer several years ago and of course picked up The Gallery of Regrettable Food and Interior Desecrations as soon as I could. Both books are laugh-out-loud funny, often bringing tears to my eyes.
- My friends are authors too. Check them out.
