New Year’s Jam

I was having image hosting issues for, like, half a year, so this is just a touch late. We went to a fun party for New Year’s Eve, and shortly after midnight folks started jamming. That bloke rocking out on the bass in the center is my husband.

Goofy Selfie

One advantage to drawing from photographs is the opportunity to create a truly ridiculous self portrait.

Cats on a Box

One morning my two cats decided that the tipped-over HVAC filter box was The Place To Be. I drew this differently from usual, starting with the full outline of both cats and box, then filling in the details. It ended up kind of geometric, with lots of angles, and yet also a pretty accurate depiction of my kitties.

Feets

Artists like to draw from life, which is why we end up drawing our feet so often.

Dracula

Inktober is in October, of course, so I was in a bit of a Halloweeny mood.

Frederick Douglass House

Ever on the lookout for new and interesting places to sketch on location, my friends and I ended up at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site. The tour of the house was fantastic, then afterward we sat on a stump and drew the house. Buildings are hard to draw but I’m actually pretty pleased with this one. And of course I’m always a sucker for National Park stamps.

Dobbin House Tavern

I found myself in Gettysburg one day (as you do), and I stopped by the Dobbin House Tavern for lunch. The food was good but the hot buttered rum was exquisite.

Birdie

Dolci Gelati

I arrived early to meet some friends, so I stopped for a cappuccino at Dolci Gelati in Old Town Alexandria. Very tasty and the barista was super nice. And one day I might get the hang of drawing coffee mugs.

A Tuna Christmas

For our anniversary, my husband and I drove up to Hagerstown, Maryland, to see A Tuna Christmas at The Washington Country Playhouse. I drew the stage while waiting for the show to start, then afterward I got both the actors to sign my book. Great play – very funny.
